Why I decided to write my own story at Saleswhale

Written by Gabriel Lim | September 11, 2020

I am not a risk-taker. I swear.

I've had an incredible string of jobs at the most secure and static companies. Because that's what I thought I wanted–security over anything else.

I was so wrong.

No matter the role, the company, or the day of the week, I wanted more creative freedom. Maybe it's because I'm a millennial or perhaps because I'm the youngest child. I don't know. Whatever it is–I want to push every project, person, and idea to the creative edge.

That's where Saleswhale comes in.

I saw my friend post a blog on their $90,000 mistake - and why they would do it all over again in a heartbeat

My heart stopped. Saleswhale was doing the kind of marketing that I've wanted to do. Real. No bullshit. Authentic storytelling.

Diving deeper into their website, I realized their product was also something I've wanted. An AI Assistant to nurture my MQLs to become conversation ready leads.

Fast forward to July, and that same friend posted a job req for a marketing lead at Saleswhale. I knew I had to apply. I opened up that job req, and my jaw dropped. The responsibility section said, "this is the part where you write your own story."

Say what?

I believed in their marketing approach, external voice, and brand ethos (yes, I said ethos). But, no listed responsibilities? I get to decide that for myself?

I decided right then and there–this was the role for me. Luckily the feeling was mutual.

It's not often that a company, product, and team come along that feel like a perfect match. I found that at Saleswhale.

I can't wait to embark on this journey. You'll be hearing from me soon. In the meantime, follow Saleswhale on LinkedIn and check out our Masterclass series. Seriously, do it now.
